 Jigs

These solid steel jigs are available in different models and sizes to suit builders' needs: the  #50, #80, #120 and #160. The choice of a model is determined by the dimension of the timber most commonly used. The width of the beam is the only deciding factor to select the jig. Each jig model makes it possible to work on a range of timber widths. The bigger the jig, the wider the assembly and the greater the tolerance! It is therefore useful to choose the jig that best fits one's needs in order to ensure the greatest structural integrity of the building. A small beam requires a smaller joint, whereas a large beam calls for a bigger joint for maximum strength. Generally, only one jig model is necessary.

The height of the tenon/mortise can be adjusted from 90 mm (3½") to 230-300 mm (9"-12"), depending on the jig model.

Pair of jigs - Class "B"
TOP

Class "B" jigs with fixed square fences (90°)
Models : 50B, 80B, 120B and 160B

These "A" jigs with square fences and adjustable height are intended for making all right-angle joints, namely straight or angled joists on a stringer. Although not as convenient as with the tilting fence model, it is possible to create angled joints such as rafter-ends on the ridge beam using the "A" jigs. They are made out of solid steel and are particularly resistant. Arunda 90° jigs are available with a graduation either in millimeters (mm) or inches ("/in/inch).

Class "N" jigs with tilting fences (+50°/90°/-50°).
Models : 50N, 80N and 120N

"N" jigs are fitted with sliding fences that can be tilted up to 50° in either direction. They can be used for all kinds of assemblies, whether perpendicular or angled. They are especially helpful in building roof systems which require milling dovetails on angle cuts, such as the joints on a chamfered ridge beam. The sliding fences can be adjusted to the exact roof pitch required. Arunda titling jigs have a double graduation in millimeters (mm) and inches ("/in/inch).

Timber width and working loads

Beams width for joist/rafter
(beam with tenon) may range from 45 to 300 mm / 1¾" to 12" with working loads up to 2100 kg / 4620 lbs.

The different jig models make a wide range of tenons possible. The bigger the jig, the wider the tenon (from 45 to 160 mm / 1¾" to 6 ¼") and the greater its tolerance (from 240 to 2100 kg / 528 to 4620 lbs per assembly). The dimensions and working loads for each jig model are illustrated below.
